DJ Mike’s interest in music started at the tender age of 7 when he was given a 4 string guitar which he used to play in church in Jamaica. Once reaching England, his love of playing instruments was fuelled by the music lessons that were being offered to him; this lead to Mike playing bass guitar for a number of gospel church groups when he reached his teens. In the early 80’s, Mike started to collect soul tunes and was asked to play at local youth clubs and private parties.
Mike moved into other genres into his twenties and played on top Reggae sound systems and he managed to set up his own mobile rig. A number of lifelong DJ friends at that time were into soulful house, Booker T, Paul Saviour and Nicholas J were to name but a few. Theses DJs introduced Mike to the sound of soulful house, a sound that he subsequently went on to relish. Mike started to build his own soulful house sound on local radio, internet radio and in the clubs which he spread across London when he played out on private bookings.
Mike has also picked up work with Smitten, Assumption, Maison, Soiree, lost Prophets parties. Over the next few years Mike is looking forward to the challenge of using his musical skills to start producing his own soulful house tunes. DJ Mike’s musical journey continues……….
